American String Quartet
Time: 4:00 P.M., Sunday,  September 9, 2007
Moody Music Building, University of Alabama

The American String Quartet is a combination of brilliant individuality and impeccable ensemble playing. With more than 30 years of artistic acclaim and a string of awards that began with the 1974 Naumburg and Coleman prizes, the American is secure in its status as one of the world’s greatest string quartets. Annually appearing on the great stages of Europe and touring America, coast to coast, the American String Quartet is based in New York City, where it serves as Resident Quartet at the Manhattan School of Music, teaching and performing an annual concert series. Every summer since its inception in 1974, the Quartet has been Resident Quartet at the Aspen Music Festival and School. The American’s return engagement in Tuscaloosa will feature Haydn’s Quartet in D minor, Op. 76, No. 2; Bartok’s Quartet No.4; and Schubert’s Quartet in G Major, Op. 161, D. 887.
