Quartet Time: 4:00 P.M., Sunday, February 19, 2006 Moody Music Building, University of Alabama Formed in 1974, the American String Quartet was launched by winning both the Coleman Competition and the Naumburg Award in the same year. Internationally recognized as one of the world’s finest quartets, the American has performed in all fifty states and appeared in virtually every important concert hall throughout the world. Resident quartet at the Aspen Music Festival since 1974, the Quartet’s diverse activities include international radio and television broadcasts. Their extensive discography can be heard on many labels. The 1998 MusicMasters Complete Mozart String Quartets are widely considered to have set the standard for this repertoire. For their Tuscaloosa concert, the Quartet will perform Mozart’s Quartet in D Major, K. 575; Brahms’ Quartet in A Minor, Op. 51, No. 2; and Ravel’s Quartet in F Major.
